Voxdrop sits in your menu bar and turns speech into text — in English, German or French, right where your cursor is. One hotkey switches the language mid-thought.

FAQ
Does Voxdrop work offline?
Yes — Voxdrop runs entirely on your Mac. Apple Speech, Whisper large-v3-turbo and NVIDIA Parakeet TDT v3 all work without an internet connection; only activating your license key needs a connection once. Audio never leaves your device.
Which apps does Voxdrop support?
Voxdrop works with any macOS application — Notion, VS Code, Slack, Mail, Safari, Terminal, and more. Text is inserted directly at your cursor position using the Accessibility API.
Do I need an OpenAI API key?
No. Voxdrop runs Whisper locally on your Mac — no API key, no cloud round-trip, nothing to configure.
Which languages are supported?
Voxdrop transcribes German (de-DE), English (en-US) and French (fr-FR). The app interface is available in German and English. You can switch the dictation language from the menu bar or settings.
How does payment work?
Voxdrop is a one-time purchase via Paddle — €9.99 Early-Bird (first 500 buyers) or €14.99 Standard. Right after checkout you get a license key on the thank-you page and by email; enter it in the app and you are done. No subscription, no monthly bills, all future updates included.
How do I activate Voxdrop?
Download the app from the thank-you page (or from voxdrop.io/license), open it and paste your license key on the very first screen. Activation needs an internet connection once; afterwards Voxdrop works fully offline. No account needed.
On how many Macs can I use it?
One key, up to 3 Macs. Manage your seats at voxdrop.io/license: enter your purchase email and open the link we send you to see every Mac using your key and remove one you no longer use. On the Mac itself you can also free its seat in Voxdrop under Settings → License → "Deactivate this Mac".
Someone else is using my key, or I sold my Mac — what can I do?
Go to voxdrop.io/license and enter your purchase email. We email you a link (valid for 2 hours) that shows every Mac using your key. Sold or old Mac: remove it to free the seat. Someone else using your key: issue a new key there — the old key stops working on all Macs at once, and you enter the new one on your own Macs.
Can I try Voxdrop before buying?
There is no free trial. Instead, every purchase comes with a 14-day no-questions-asked refund — if Voxdrop is not for you, email us within 14 days and you get your money back.
I lost my license key — what now?
Go to voxdrop.io/license, enter the email you used at checkout, and we will re-send your key right away — together with a link to manage your Macs.
Can I get a refund?
Yes — we voluntarily offer a 14-day no-questions-asked refund on every purchase. Email us within 14 days of the purchase date and you'll get your money back — no justification required. A refund revokes the license key. See the Refund Policy for the full details.
Is Voxdrop in the Mac App Store?
Not yet. Voxdrop is currently a direct download because the app needs Accessibility API access for system-wide text insertion, which isn't permitted under Mac App Store sandbox restrictions. App Store availability is on the roadmap.
What happens with my recordings?
Audio never leaves your Mac. Apple Speech and Whisper large-v3-turbo both transcribe locally — there is no upload, no cloud round-trip, and no audio stored on our servers. Transcripts are saved in the local library on your Mac (Pro feature). Meeting recordings work the same way: system audio and microphone are processed locally, and the audio is deleted as soon as the transcript exists.
Do I need consent from others before recording?
You are solely responsible for obtaining consent from all parties before recording any conversation. Recording laws vary by jurisdiction — some require consent from all parties (e.g., Germany, many US states), others only from one party. Voxdrop is designed for personal dictation and note-taking. Please review the laws applicable in your location before recording conversations with others.
What is meeting recording?
On macOS 14.4 or newer, Voxdrop detects calls in Teams, Zoom, FaceTime, Slack, Discord and Webex and offers to record. Both sides are transcribed live and separately — you and the others — so the transcript is ready seconds after you hang up. On macOS 26 with Apple Intelligence you also get a summary: a detailed bullet list right away and a short version with the 12 key points. Everything runs on your Mac; the audio is deleted once the transcript exists. The first time, Voxdrop downloads a speech model (~1.6 GB); the first load takes a minute or two. The consent rules above apply to meeting recordings too.
Does Voxdrop pull out to-dos and send them to everyone?
Yes. After each meeting the "To-dos" tab lists who does what by when — only tasks someone clearly took on or was given, grouped by person, ready to check off. "Email" opens the short version, the summary and the to-dos as a draft in your own mail app; you add the recipients and send it. Voxdrop never sends email itself.
Can Claude, Cursor or my terminal read my meetings (MCP)?
Yes, if you allow it in Settings → Integrations. Voxdrop includes a local, read-only MCP server — Claude Desktop is set up with one click, Claude Code with: claude mcp add --transport stdio --scope user voxdrop -- "/Applications/Voxdrop.app/Contents/MacOS/voxdrop-cli" mcp (Cursor and Codex work the same way). There is also a voxdrop terminal command (voxdrop todos --open, voxdrop search …). The server runs on your Mac without an account or cloud; which AI reads the answers is up to you.
Can I export meetings to Obsidian or use them in automations?
Yes. Voxdrop can write every finished meeting as a Markdown file with frontmatter into a folder of your choice (for example your Obsidian vault), optionally also as JSON for n8n, Make or scripts. Files you edit are never overwritten. Shortcuts actions like "Latest meeting summary" and "Open to-dos" are included too.
Do summaries and to-dos need Apple Intelligence?
No. They run with Apple Intelligence on macOS 26 — or with a local model through Ollama or LM Studio on your own Mac, which also works on macOS 14 and 15. In both cases the text stays on your Mac.
